"We don't do what we do to win awards, we do it because it's the right thing to do."
-Jock Dalton

Dalton Quarry is sited alongside Rickreall Creek, an important tributary of the Willamette River and source of the drinking water for Dallas and other cities downstream.
From the beginning, the Daltons made their Enviornmental Protection Plan an integral part of quarry development. With significant water flow from the quarry into Rickreall Creek, Jock Dalton engineered and built an extensive system of settling ponds to trap most of the solids in the stormwater discharge. As a result, water flowing through the quarry is significantly cleaner than the creek's main flow.

As a result of these efforts, the Daltons have received:

DOGAMI's Outstanding Operator Honorable Mention (1995)

Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) Operator of the Year (1996)
DOGAMI's Reclamationist of the Year (1997)
Polk County Soil & Water Conservation District's Outstanding Conservation Cooperator (1998)
Governor Kitzhaber's Willamette Basin Award for Agriculture, Business, and Industry (1998)
Oregon Association of Conservation Districts Cooperator of the Year (1999)
